Life is short...is it?

"What if I get bored, then what do I do...?" Dr Ernest Menville (Bruce Willis's role in Death becomes Her) struggled, as he stared dumbly at the elixir of life dangling right before him. Eternal life is right within his grasp, yet he faltered...

Who amongst us can't recall the last time we had wished for more time, so that we could complete the mugging process for that impossible paper, so that we could savour the the dying days of that fantastic vacation, so that we could snuggle in bed for another couple of hours etc etc... However, if Ernest's choice were to be given to you, if that elixir of life was really shoved right to your face, would you take it?

Before you answer, take a moment and reflect upon the reasons for which you had wished for more time. If you were to have an infinite amount of time to prepare for an exam, would it have been meaningful or challenging? If you were to be given an infinite number of days in your vacation, would you even look forward to the next one?

Many a time, one wishes for something in remedy of a problem without even attempting to understand the reason that problem came into being in the first place. Time is precious only because it's finite, a simple economic theory stemmed from the scarcity of resources. If it had been otherwise, the law of diminishing marginal returns will set in, obliterating the value of time...unless you have something fun that will last all eternity...

Have you ever stopped for a minute amidst the tumultous wave of work and play that seemed to bring you ever forward without you having a part in it, subjugated as a passenger in the journey of your own life? Have you ever wonder what is it that drives you, fulfils you and brings a sense of purpose over you, or is this a question that pales into the shadow beneath the mundaneness of day to day struggle over material ends...

Everyone's time is finite, but it is this finite nature of time which exalts the greatness of human endeavours. Who has never been awed by the majestic Pyramids of Giza, built totally by human labour in their finite lifetimes? Who has never been captivated by the beauty frozen on the monuments in Petra, carved in entirety by delicate human hands on solid enormous rocks that lasted two millenia?

It's also this ephemeral nature of life that spur all men to great feats in the first place. Without the constant pressure of time ticking away, will Alexander have conquered almost half the world in just little more than a decade? Will Genghis Khan have claimed
sovereignty over all land from the Caspian sea to Beijing? While typical men wallow in self-pity over the futility of the human life, the greater ones stepped up into their roles and play them.

So, is life short? Yes...if you, through your own doing, relinquished the power of choice and becomes a willing and passive passenger of the journey of life. In the movie, Ernest rejected the elixir of life and embraced life itself, achieving immortality through his deeds and descendents, without eternal life...

Now, that's the beauty of life...

The day I plunge into the world of BLOG

Hellow world...

When it comes to new gadgets and new technologies, there's always the fear of the unknown. The same goes for the word blog. Though it has been quite a while since I've first heard this word, I've been consciously or perhaps even unconsciously avoiding it. Maybe I really didn't care about it or just that I didn't want to have to spend time understanding it...

In the end, it's just...web log...ok well done...

I guess in most cases when dealing with the unknown, we just have to heed the advice as inscribed in large friendly letters on the cover of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", perhaps the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor,...Don't Panic...

Cheers.
